Bulla Gastrobar!

Bulla (boo-ya)
The word “Bulla” is slang for chatter and what people are talking about and it definitely proves to be just that amidst the dining scene in downtown Coral Gables.  I finally had the chance to go on a weekday night and couldn’t believe the crowd that stuck around after 10pm.

Bulla is the creation of the former owner of Por Fin, Carlos Centurion, and stands in the same location as Por Fin.  It’s a beautiful corner space with the bar as the main attraction.  It was perfect for a nice mild Miami night, since they open all of the doors to let the breeze in.  I had heard the buzz about Bulla from friends that recommended it and I’m so glad I finally tried it for myself.

First up, Sangria!! We got a pitcher of their red sangria and it was delicious! They also serve white sangria (sangria blanca) that’s made with Cava (sparkling wine) and Sangria de Cerveza which is made with Ommegang Witte.
We ordered from the small plates (Tapas y Raciones) section of the menu, they also have a larger plates (Platos Familiares) section for sharing and also smaller dishes like meats and cheeses.  Pictured above is the Pan con Tomate which was a nice compliment with our other dishes, since I used it to dip in the Heuvos Bulla 😉
Next, were the Croquetas de Jamon.  They melted in my mouth! And were accompanied with fig jelly; my favorite!

The Heuvos ‘Bulla’, is a play on a tapas dish you might find at other Spanish restaurants.  Heuvos ‘Bulla’ is made with Organic egg, homemade potato chips, Serrano ham, potato foam, and truffle oil.  The truffle oil really makes the dish! The chips were nice and crispy.

The Ensalada de Pulpo was my favorite! What an awesome dish and nice and light too! It’s grilled octopus with tomatoes and cucumbers in a light dressing.  The octopus was grilled nicely, not overdone or tough.  I was really pleased with the assortment of yellow and red tomatoes and how fresh they were.  Unfortunately, it’s hard to find fresh and great tasting tomatoes nowadays :/ But these were right on point!

All in all, my first experience at Bulla was great! Beautiful ambiance, great food with fresh ingredients and the servers were very attentive as well.
