Farinelli 1937 – Coconut Grove

Anyone who’s from Miami can definitely see the transformation of the “Grove.”  Coconut Grove was in fact one of the first communities to be established in Greater Miami and its sense of individuality and “uniqueness” still remains.  With high rises going up and a general trend towards establishing smaller neighborhoods in Miami outside of the densely crowded Brickell/downtown area, many new restaurants have opened in the Grove.  One of them being Farinelli 1937.  It’s directly across from its sister restaurant Strada in the Grove and also Lokal.

I’ve passed by Farinelli plenty of times to find it filled with people enjoying their meal on the pretty sprawling terrace or inside the restaurant where they house their brick ovens.  I finally tried it recently with my best friend and we loved it.  We, too, wanted to experience our meal on the terrace and although it was raining that night, their large patio umbrellas saved us (thankfully)!  Being that we were about to dine on Italian goodness we wanted a good red to pair with our meal.  Per our waiter’s suggestion, we ordered glasses of their red from Cotes du Rhone.  It was excellent, full bodied, and it had a wonderful berry taste.

Pere e Noci Salad
Caprino e Zucca

We started with the Pere e Noci Salad that had pear, walnut, and gorgonzola.  Next, we had the Caprino e Zucca which was goat cheese croquettes atop pumpkin mousse.  Both were amazing! I could’ve eaten spoon fulls of that pumpkin mousse!

Speck, Funghi e Fontina

Alas, the pizza! We ordered the Speck, Funghi e Fontina pizza.  It had smoked prosciutto, fontina, sauteed mushrooms and truffle infusion.  I personally love my pizza with prosciutto on top so that was a must and this pizza more than exceeded our expectations.  The mix of flavors was perfect!  The crust as well was a traditional Italian crust, with just the right amount of crisp.  The overall service was good but a tad slow which I encountered also when I met up with friends on another night. Other than that, be sure to check out Farinelli!
