Quattro Gastronomia Italiana

Italian food is probably one of my top comfort foods.  I mean what’s better than enjoying a beautiful plate of pasta, hearty bread, and freshly grated cheese?! Anyways, after a long day I was very much looking forward to a comforting meal at Quattro.  The restaurant, which has been on Lincoln Road for 10 years, has a new executive chef and so we were graciously invited to try some of their new dishes as well as their staples.  IMG_8105 IMG_8106

The waitress was so kind to offer some suggestions to start off with. One of them (pictured above) being the Vitello Tonnato Con Capperi which consisted of  very thinly sliced veal with favignana tuna sauce and capers.  It was a unique dish, with the thin slices of veal hiding under the tuna sauce.  IMG_8107 IMG_8110

Next up, was the Polipo del Mediterraneo con Farro Legumi Pomodorini – a new menu item from Chef Bellofiore.  He was born and raised in Venice, so the new menu items definitely reflect his expertise in seafood.  This was one of my favorites of the night but I am pretty much obsessed with grilled octopus and order it everywhere I see it! The grilled octopus was accompanied by farro, legumes, cherry tomatoes and a lemon dressing.  IMG_8111

One of the many staples at Quattro is the Parmigiana di Melanzane in Forma which is baked eggplant layered with mozzarella and parmesan cheese.  It was great, especially with freshly grated parmesan on top.  It would be a nice appetizer to share! IMG_8115 IMG_8116

The Polpette in Umido is may also be another good appetizer option.  The large beef meatballs were served with tomato sauce and scoops of fresh ricotta. IMG_8125 IMG_8127

Pictured above is a new primi piatti menu item – the Gnocchi alla Sorrentina.  I have to admit I am not an expert in gnocchis, but in any case, I personally found the handmade gnocchis soft and tender.  The gnocchis were accompanied by  buffala mozzarella, fresh tomato sauce and basil then baked in the oven.

The Lasagna was a leaning tower of layers of pasta, beef ragu and cheese. 🙂 IMG_8131

My favorite pasta of the night was the Preparazione Casalinga Dei Ravioli Di Casa Savoia Tartufati (what a mouthful! But a delicious one at that!).  This pasta dish was a clear winner of the night as I wasn’t able to get a better picture of it! It’s the top right pasta dish in the picture above.  It had fontina and taleggio cheese ravioli drizzled with white truffle flavor.

A new pasta dish, top left, is one of the chef’s favorites.  The Paccheri con Polpo Pomodorini E Olive Taggiasca – paccheri pasta with Mediterranean octopus, taggiasca olives, and cherry tomatoes. The tube-shaped paccheri pasta, according to Quattro, originated from Southern Italy and pairs well with seafood.  The lightness of the dish really showcased the pasta.

The showstopper of the night was clearly the Branzino Intero in Crosta di Sale Marino – whole Mediterranean sea bass baked in salt crust.  They brought the fish as pictured above and actually deboned and filleted it table side.  The Branzino was very soft and light!  I actually really liked the fish paired with the grilled veggies on the side.  IMG_8140

What’s an Italian dinner without risotto?! So, of course we also had to try the Costatine Brasate Di Manzo E Risotto Ai Funghi– braised short ribs with mushroom risotto.

Finally, onto the desserts! My favorite dessert was the Nutella Semifreddo.  It was actually a secret menu item but I’m sure you can request it!  Semifreddo is almost like a mouse and ice cream in one.  As the name suggests, it’s semi-frozen.  The nutella semifreddo was delicious and the vanilla gelato on top was a great pairing.  IMG_8145

Quattro also serves a Torta al Cioccolato Fondente– warm chocolate molten cake with fior di latte gelato.  IMG_8149

The third dessert was the Bianco Magiare alla Nutella  which was vanilla panna cotta with nutella sauce and berries.  I always like the pairing of fruits with dessert and this was a nice lighter option.

I have to also mention the wine! With all this food, I forgot one of the most important items! We paired our dinner with a white wine from Campania.  It was the Feudi di San Gregorio (falanghina).

To recap, my favorites were the following:

  • Polipo del Mediterraneo con Farro Legumi Pomodorini
  • Preparazione Casalinga Dei Ravioli Di Casa Savoia Tartufati
  • Branzino Intero in Crosta di Sale Marino
  • Nutella Semifreddo
